If you know someone who takes medications and frequently has their cell phone with them, e-mail them this info about The Pill Phone - a wireless software application for medication management.

The Pill Phone is available through Verizon and AT&T for about $4 a month and is based on the best selling guide The Pill Book, which features information on more than 1,800 prescription drugs.

The Pill Phone reminds you when to take a medication and can even notify someone else - say a family member - that you have taken your medication or missed a dose.

The Pill Phone is the only FDA-approved wireless application for meds management, though given the FDA’s track record in recent years that may not be the best endorsement.

Mazeltov to the Pressalit design team that created the bathroom seen above. This is Universal Design at its best.

Everything but the toilet is on rails that move horizontally and vertically, so you can fit a loo, a sink and a shower seat in one small space with drainage in the floor.

It’s brilliant for wheelchair users but would benefit anyone needing flexibility in bathroom fixtures — and who doesn’t?

We include the tongue-in-cheek video below as a bonus, pretty much just for your entertainment. It’s obvious the Pressalit company has a sense of humor — they rank their soft-close toilet on the same scale of importance as the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Ron Arad’s quixotic rotating bathtub/shower rivals his hat for most unusual fixture in this video for Teuco bath products (where the models never remotely resemble you or me.)

Arad’s prototype bath is oddly compelling, fun and a little whacky - much like the chandeliers he designed a few years ago where you could send a text message to the lights from your cell phone saying you’d be a little late for dinner. As for Arad’s hat … well, in our opinion, it’s just whacky.

Cait loves gourds as seen by this year’s backyard harvest.

guords.jpgMarty admits to not understanding the whole gourd thing, viewing them as impractical because you can’t eat them and most are too small to make good bird nests.

But around here gardens are a shared venture so the Gimpy Girls raised a variety of gourds, which grew abundantly among the vines of the tomatoes, the cucumbers and the peas.

Cait photographed this Autumn Beauty several weeks ago before the first hard frost hit and the House Finches descended for a Fall feast.

It’s been soul-satisfying watching the birds gorge themselves on the many sunflowers we planted near the kitchen windows this year.

Here at Gimpy Girl World Headquarters, we’ve always got projects waiting for spray paint - old metal tables, a metal headboard turned trellis or wire shelving salvaged from someone’s curb.

nozzle.pngThis spray paint nozzle makes the work easier and less painful on our Gimpy hands. It makes a usually semi-annoying task fun because your poor old finger doesn’t have to hold down the button on the can.

The comfortable pistol grip and extra-wide trigger ensure your hand doesn’t give out before the project is finished and the reusable nozzle changes easily from can to can.

Your hands and fingers also stay clear of the spray valve so you end up with more paint on the project and less on yourself. Cait says the nozzle gives added control and feels more like air brushing than spray painting.

Eds. Note: The only downside to the nozzle is Marty’s fear that many things at Gimpy Girls World Headquarters will turn purple over night. To learn why click here and go to the bottom of Cait’s bio.

After years of living in her beautiful Oakland, Calif., home, writer Norma Shattuck began experiencing increased mobility problems, first from arthritic knees and then from spine surgery.

norma.pngIn need of change, but not ready to give up her steeply staircased home, Shattuck researched how to transform her surroundings.

She nixed a pilgrimage to Lourdes — and praying for a miracle — in favor of more practical solutions: turning a small butler’s pantry into a first-floor bathroom and finding the right motorized lift that could circumnavigate her staircase.

Read Norma’s story here in the San Francisco Chronicle.
