In winter, few things aid a person like a pair of good boots - and by good we mean well-fitting and sturdy with low heels.

The other day in the grocery store, Cait came to the aid of a woman who slipped and fell while wearing what Cait calls “Floozie Boots” - high-heeled, dress boots that are an accident waiting to happen in winter.

The floor was dry, so it didn’t even take ice or a slick spot to topple this woman off her floozie boots. Cait helped her up and she walked off limping and embarrassed.

Cait didn’t think she was in the mood to hear her Gimpy spiel about heels. If you’re in the mood click here.

Being in the hospital is bad enough without having to wear those odious, prison garb, hospital gowns that literally leave so little to the imagination.

Hospital GownHealing Threads was borne of the dreams - and illnesses - of three sisters, two of whom, Peg and Claire, were undergoing chemotherapy at the same time - Peg for breast cancer, Claire for colon cancer.

The sisters designed four styles of tops and two styles of pants with an arrangement of soft closures that allow parts of the body to be exposed while covering everything else.

Functional and fashionable, the sisters’ hospital clothes let patients retain their dignity and modesty and feel more like themselves.

Peg now has been cancer free since 2002. Claire despite 35 months of chemo, holistic remedies and prayer died on Jan. 21, 2006. She is missed by many, especially her sisters and her daughter, Lilly.

Fashion Freaks know how hard it is for wheelchair users to find good looking clothes that fit.

Skirts are too short in back, pants are too tight in the crotch and jackets travel forward with every move until the shoulder pads form extra boobs!

Fashion Freaks, in Stockholm, has designed a web site about creating clothing for wheelchair users. Their site has patterns for downloading, sewing instructions, and useful tips to create a wardrobe you actually like. Imagine!

The Fashion Freaks site was funded by the Swedish Inheritance Fund, which supports the development of activities for people with disabilities so those people, in turn, can have a greater influence on society.

Cait & Marty, having many talents, sewing not among them, believe the Fashion Freaks have good ideas which can be adapted if you are a wheelchair user who sews or knows someone who will do it for you.
